a liquor story robbery led to gunfire. sherrie johnson joins us here in the studio with this story. >> reporter: witnesses say it all happened so fast. this morning, the soccer coach is being hailed a hero. around 3:00, a security officer fired at two men trying to rob a liquor store at a shopping center. across the street, the mercy high school girls soccer team was practicing for a game. shots rang out, the coaches of the team and a police officer tackled one of the robbery suspects. >> we were all getting ready for our game. we heard the first gunshot. we didn't really know what it was. we were all just like "oh it's no big deal." then there were three more. we were looking around not knowing how serious it was. >> got the kids up to the school. and secured the area. >> reporter: the suspects ran away from the scene. one suspect was caught and arrested. police are still searching for the second suspect. >>> four minutes after 5:00 right now: an anne arundel county mother says she's desperate. two years ago her son was murdered. police still have no suspects in this crime, now sh

joins us live. >> reporter: the doctor is expected to be okay. he came out of surgery last night and at last check was in stable condition. it all unfolded yesterday morning shortly after 11:00 on the eighth floor of the nelson building. the sprawling medical campus was put on lockdown after 50- year-old paul pardus pulled out a gun and shot the doctor. he became distraught after being briefed on his mother's condition. he believed doctors fail her and that prompted him to shoot the doctor. he then ran into his mother's room, shot her in the head and turned the gun on himself. the violent ordeal caught a lot of people at the hospital off guard. >> it is scary knowing someone's on the outside on a rampage with a gun in a hospital where we're supposed to be protected. >> reporter: a metal detector may have kept pardus from bringing the gun inside the hospital but there are more than 80 entrances on this sprawling campus and to have a metal detector at each entrance would be nearly impossible. still, they will review security procedures here at hopkins. live in baltimore, linda so,
